Click-to-Message Ads: Templates That Get Great Replies
When someone taps your Instagram (or other click-to-message) ad, the pre-filled message template becomes their FIRST message in the chat. That first message is what your assistant matches against your Knowledge Base and your location list — so how you write it directly determines the quality of the very first reply your prospects see.
1. Mirror the template in your Knowledge Base
If a Knowledge Base entry contains the template question word-for-word with the answer you want, the assistant delivers YOUR answer verbatim — no paraphrasing.
- Ad template: "I'd like information about the Premium Package."
- Knowledge Base entry: "Question: I'd like information about the Premium Package. / Answer: <your exact answer>"
Add one Knowledge Base pair for every active ad template. When you change the ad, update the pair.
2. Put the location or area in the template
For location-specific ads — whatever you call your locations (branch, store, campus, clinic, office) — include the location name or the area it serves in the template:
- "I'd like information about your North Branch."
The assistant then skips the "which area are you in?" question and connects the visitor to the right location immediately — one less step before the answer they came for.
3. Keep it short and single-topic
One clear question per template gives the sharpest match. Don't pack pricing, availability, and delivery into one template — run separate ads (or let the assistant handle follow-ups).
4. Headline codes don't hurt — the template text is what matters
Campaign names, dates, and codes in the ad headline are ignored during matching. Spend your care on the template text: that is what the assistant reads as the customer's question.
5. Want full control? Build a Flow for the template
For your most important campaigns, the Flow Builder gives you complete control: create a flow with a keyword trigger matching your ad template, and design the exact reply, quick-reply buttons, follow-up questions, and hand-off steps yourself. Flows run before the AI, so a matching template always gets your scripted experience. See the Flow Builder article for setup.
Quick checklist before launching an ad
- [ ] Template text exists word-for-word in the Knowledge Base with your chosen answer
- [ ] Location-specific ad → location/area name is in the template
- [ ] One topic per template, one sentence if possible
- [ ] After editing the ad, the Knowledge Base pair (or Flow trigger) was updated to match
- [ ] High-stakes campaign → consider a keyword-triggered Flow for a fully scripted journey
